Golf is called a gentleman’s game, and perhaps no one personifies that better than Byron Nelson.  A legendary golfer who always has time for everybody, he remains a great ambassador for the game.  By the time his career ended, he had won 6 major championships including wins at the Masters, US Open and the PGA Championship.  His most notable feat came in 1945, when he won 11 tournaments in a row; a record that has stood unchallenged for over half a century.  Nelson grew up in Ft Worth alongside another golfing legend, Ben Hogan.  The duo even caddied at the same golf club, Glen Garden.  Today, the PGA has honored Mr. Nelson by making The Byron Nelson Classic one of the annual stops on the PGA tour.  The event is one of the most popular PGA tournaments on the tour today, due largely to the respect golfers have of this legend of the game.  While his golf swing may not be as sleek or powerful as it was when he was on the tour, his love of the game continues to burn just as brightly.
